Pregnacare Conception is designed to help women build up their nutritional stores, in combination with a healthy diet and lifestyle, to increase the chance of conception. The formula has been carefully developed to contain the essential micronutrients required to support female reproductive health.
This supplement contains vital nutrients such as Vitamin B12, N-Acetyl Cysteine, Selenium and 400µg folic acid* – the quantity recommended by the Department of Health for women trying to conceive. Supplemental folic acid increases maternal folate status, which is an important nutrient for pregnancy – low maternal folate status is a risk factor and can lead to developmental defects of neural tubes in the foetus.
Folic acid also plays a key role in the growth of maternal tissue growth throughout pregnancy. This essential nutrient not only helps to reduce the risk of development problems for your baby in the early stages of pregnancy, but it also helps the body build healthy red blood cells. It’s one of the most essential nutrients your body needs for developing a healthy baby, particularly in the early stages of your pregnancy. With this daily supplement, you can ensure you’re getting the adequate amount to facilitate a healthy pregnancy.
To support female reproductive health, women require certain nutrients. These include zinc for healthy fertility and to strengthen the immune system, and Vitamin B6 to regulate hormonal activity and maintain normal functioning of the nervous system. Iron and magnesium are also vital for a healthy pregnancy, ensuring adequate oxygen is carried to the foetus and to prevent high blood pressure.
Pregnacare Conception provides all-round nutritional support, including biotin and copper to regulate energy release, and iron which plays a crucial role in a healthy immune system and the formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin. It’s a safeguarding measure that ensures your body has the nutrients it needs for a healthy start to your pregnancy.
This formula also contains Coenzyme Q10, Inositol and Beta-carotene to ensure your body has the nutrients it needs to develop a healthy baby. A comprehensive and balanced formula, Pregnacare Conception delivers expertly balanced nutrition to help you build a healthy body in preparation for pregnancy.
*The beneficial effects are obtained with a supplemental folic acid daily intake of 400mcg for at least one month before and up to three months after conception.

Why Pregnacare Conception?
This nutritional supplement has been carefully formulated to support a healthy conception and to maximise the chances of conception for women who are trying to get pregnant. The formula has been scientifically developed to contain the essential nutrients required to build up nutritional stores, to support a healthy reproductive system and to prepare the body for pregnancy.
This pre-natal formulation contains a range of micronutrients that are recognised to be beneficial to conception and during pregnancy, including Inositol, Selenium, Vitamins B12 and D, and the exact level of folic acid as recommended by the Department of Health.
When Should I Start Taking Pregnacare Conception?
Pregnacare Conception should be taken when you first start trying for a baby, in order to build up the body’s nutritional stores. It can be used as much as 3-6 months before you begin trying to conceive. When you have confirmed that you are pregnant, you can use up any remaining Pregnacare Conception tablets before switching to Pregnacare Plus or Pregnacare Max to support your body throughout the rest of your pregnancy.
Can Pregnacare Conception Be Taken with Other Medications?
Pregnacare Conception can be taken alongside other medications safely and without the risk of undesired side effects. However, if you are taking prescribed medications or supplements, or you have an underlying condition, please seek advice from your doctor or health professional first.
Do not take Vitamin A supplements or any multivitamin supplements containing Vitamin A while taking Pregnacare Conception, as too much Vitamin A can cause harm to your baby.
Does Pregnacare Conception Cause Any Side Effects?
There are no known side effects to this formula when it is taken as directed, as it only contains a balance of vitamins and minerals. However, women taking this supplement should not exceed the recommended dose and in the case of overdose, seek medical advice immediately.
How Many Tablets Does One Pack Contain?
Pregnacare Conception contains 30 tablets per pack and the recommended intake is one tablet per day.
What Should I Know Before Taking Pregnacare Conception?
Pregnacare Conception has been developed by experts, including highly qualified pharmacists and nutritional consultants, to ensure it contains the necessary nutrients for a healthy female reproductive system. The levels of each micronutrient included in this supplement have been carefully considered to provide you with the right dosage each day to enhance a healthy diet.
Pregnacare Conception tablets are based on scientific research evidence. They replace your usual daily multivitamin, providing you with a range of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients. This supplement can be considered a nutritional safeguard for women trying to conceive to support their body throughout the process of trying for a baby.
How Should I Take Pregnacare Conception?
We recommend taking Pregnacare Conception with or immediately after your main meal, with water or a cold drink. This is to reduce the nausea that can occur when multivitamins are taken on an empty stomach and also helps the body absorb the nutrients more effectively.
We do not recommend chewing the tablets as they have not been formulated to be consumed this way, and as a result they do not contain sweeteners, flavourings or ingredients to help the tablet break up in the mouth.
If you have difficulty swallowing tablets, there are methods you can use to help. Vitabiotics recommend chewing some food right before you swallow the tablet, putting the tablet into your mouth so you can swallow it with the food. You can then wash this down with some liquid. Your throat opens wider to swallow food than it does with liquids, so it can help if you struggle to get tablets down with ease. If this does not help, you may find swallowing the tablet with thicker liquids, such as yoghurt or a smoothie, more helpful.
Which Nutrients are Included?
Pregnacare Conception contains Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Selenium, Inositol, N-Acetyl Cysteine, Coenzyme Q10 and Folic Acid. The full list can be found under Nutritional Information.
Should I Be Concerned About Monthly Cycle Changes While Taking Pregnacare Conception?
Pregnacare Conception contains moderate levels of essential vitamins and minerals, and it does not contain drugs or hormones. Our research has shown that it does not contain any nutrients which have known to cause irregularities to the menstrual cycle. Hundreds of thousands of women experience irregularities with their cycle every year, the majority of which have never used Pregnacare Conception.
There can be many reasons for a change in your menstrual cycle, from weight loss or weight gain, excessive exercising or stress. Studies suggest that coming off of the contraceptive pill can also affect your monthly cycle for several months, so this can be the cause of the delay, as can underlying issues which you should discuss with your doctor.
However, there will be a small (though still significant) number of women who are using it when they experience these changes. If you notice changes to your cycle at the time of taking this supplement, it may not necessarily mean that you are pregnant, and you should speak to your doctor for guidance. It’s also advisable that you take a pregnancy test if you think that your monthly cycle is delayed.
What Scientific Studies Have Been Carried Out On Pregnacare Conception Tablets?
Senior obstetrician Prof. Mark Brincat FRCOG FRCPI, a specialist in the field, carried out a scientific review to determine if regular use of Pregnacare Conception could be attributed to irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Vitabiotics were not involved in the literature review process of this study, nor in the assessment or writing of the report. As of 25 February 2019, the report concluded that:
“There is no evidence that the various components in Pregnacare Conception should cause an irregularity in cycle in normal cycling women. Its various components have been shown to be safe and of benefit.
Therefore, any irregularity in cycle whilst someone is on Pregnacare Conception is likely to be casual, a chance finding and likely to highlight some other pre-existing condition. This warrants referral to a doctor and full investigation.”
Pregnacare Conception has also been involved in randomised controlled clinical trials, such as that published in 2011 in Reproductive BioMedicine, which shows that women who had difficulties conceiving experienced significantly higher pregnancy rates when taking Pregnacare Conception than those taking just folic acid supplements.
The trial also indicated that women taking Pregnacare Conception were able to get pregnant with significantly fewer attempts compared to women taking just folic acid. There were no examples of negative effects on the menstrual cycle found and a separate study showed that the monthly cycle is typically more regular for women using multivitamin supplementation.
